YTG
What is YTG?
YTG complements YTD (Year to Date) by showing what is still left to achieve in the year. While YTD looks backward at cumulative performance, YTG looks forward, focusing on what needs to be delivered to hit annual targets.
How It Works:
- Formula:
Example: If a vendor’s annual sales target is $20M and YTD sales (Jan–Aug) are $12M, then the YTG target = $8M for the remaining months. - Often used in QBR (Quarterly Business Reviews) and AVN (Annual Vendor Negotiations) to measure vendor accountability.
Benefits for Vendors:
- Goal alignment: Clarifies what still needs to be achieved in the year.
- Resource planning: Helps allocate ad spend, promotions, and inventory to meet YTG targets.
- Negotiation leverage: Shows Amazon realistic expectations for what is possible in the remainder of the year.
Benefits for Amazon:
- Forecast accuracy: Provides visibility into expected revenue for the remainder of the year.
- Promotional planning: Ensures vendors commit resources for peak periods (Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Holidays).
- Accountability: Holds vendors responsible for closing gaps between current performance and annual targets.
Challenges:
- Relies heavily on accurate forecasting - unexpected events (supply chain issues, demand spikes) can derail YTG plans.
- Can put pressure on vendors in Q4, when large volumes must often be delivered to meet YTG goals.
- Amazon may push aggressive funding or promotions if YTD performance lags, making YTG targets harder to achieve profitably.
Why It Matters:
YTG is critical in Amazon vendor management because it ensures both Amazon and the vendor stay focused on closing the year strong. It balances past performance (YTD) with future commitments (YTG) to drive full-year success.
Example:
A toy manufacturer has a yearly target of $50M. By October, YTD sales are $35M, leaving YTG = $15M. The AVS Brand Specialist works with the vendor to plan Black Friday promotions and inventory allocations to hit this target.
In short:
YTG (Year to Go) is the forward-looking metric that shows how much performance remains to achieve annual targets, helping Amazon and vendors align on planning, forecasting, and execution for the rest of the year.
