PPOOS
What is PPOOS?
PPOOS is a key availability performance metric used in Amazon’s retail and supply chain analytics. It focuses only on procurable ASINs - those that are not discontinued or restricted - to measure the true impact of stockouts within replenishable selection.
This helps Amazon and vendors understand whether operational inefficiencies or supply delays are causing lost sales on products that could otherwise be in stock.
How It Works:
- Glance Views (GVs): Every customer page view of an ASIN’s product detail page is counted as a “glance view.”
- Out-of-Stock (OOS) Glance Views: When customers visit a PDP but the product is unavailable (no offer in the Buy Box), those GVs count as OOS.
- Procurable ASINs: Only ASINs that Amazon can reorder from vendors are included (non-procurable ASINs, e.g., end-of-life or delisted products, are excluded).
- Metric Calculation:Benefits for Amazon:
- True availability insight: Focuses on items Amazon should have in stock, removing discontinued SKUs from analysis.
- Operational efficiency: Highlights supply chain gaps, delays, or replenishment issues.
- Customer satisfaction: Helps reduce lost sales and negative experiences from out-of-stock listings.
Benefits for Vendors:
- Performance visibility: Shows how often their actively listed products are unavailable when customers want to buy.
- Forecast alignment: Encourages better demand planning with Amazon.
- Joint business discussions: PPOOS is a common KPI in Weekly Business Reviews (WBRs) and Vendor Scorecards.
Challenges:
- Excludes non-procurable items: Might not capture total availability picture for transitioning ASINs.
- Timing lag: Reporting is often based on aggregated glance view data, not real-time.
- Shared accountability: PPOOS can be affected by both Amazon’s forecasting accuracy and the vendor’s supply performance.
Why It Matters:
A high PPOOS means customers are frequently viewing procurable products that are out of stock - representing direct missed revenue for both Amazon and the vendor. Maintaining a low PPOOS is crucial for sales growth, Buy Box retention, and customer trust.
Example:
- Total Glance Views on procurable ASINs: 1,000,000
- OOS Glance Views: 50,000This means 5% of customer demand on procurable ASINs could not be fulfilled due to stockouts.
In short:
PPOOS (Procurable Product Out of Stock) measures the out-of-stock rate for replenishable ASINs, showing how often customers encounter unavailable products Amazon could otherwise procure - calculated as OOS Glance Views ÷ Total Glance Views.
