MWS - Amazon Glossary

    What is MWS?

Amazon Marketplace Web Services (MWS) is an API suite that enables professional Amazon sellers to integrate their systems directly with Amazon’s marketplace infrastructure. It allows for automated and scalable control over core seller functions without relying on the Seller Central user interface.

    Key capabilities of MWS:

    • Inventory and listings management
    • Order and shipping confirmation
    • Pricing updates
    • Report generation (e.g., order, payment, return data)
    • Performance and feedback tracking

    Use cases:

    • ERP and inventory system integrations
    • Third-party seller tools (e.g., repricers, CRMs, analytics dashboards)
    • Automated order processing and fulfillment routing
    • Large catalog and price syncing

    Transition note:
MWS is currently being phased out and replaced by the Selling Partner API (SP-API), which offers more secure, modern, and flexible functionality - especially for multi-marketplace and vendor/seller hybrid accounts.

💡 Example: A seller uses MWS to automatically update stock levels from their warehouse management system every 15 minutes.

    In short:
MWS (Marketplace Web Services) is Amazon’s original seller-facing API system used to automate account operations - now being replaced by the more advanced Selling Partner API.
