GIPE
What is GIPE?
Global Imports Program Expansion (GIPE) is part of Amazon’s strategy to streamline global sourcing by expanding direct imports from manufacturers and suppliers located outside the destination market. The goal is to enhance product availability, reduce costs, and speed up delivery by importing goods directly into local fulfilment centers.
Key components of GIPE:
- Onboarding more vendors into Amazon’s Direct Import (DI) model
- Leveraging Amazon’s global logistics network (e.g., Amazon Global Logistics, AGL)
- Optimizing supply chains to reduce reliance on domestic inventory
- Supporting emerging marketplaces and expanding selection across regions
Benefits to Amazon and vendors:
- Lower landed costs due to bulk international shipping
- Better forecasting and inventory control at a global level
- Accelerated international growth for brands and manufacturers
- Enhanced in-stock rates across multiple countries
💡 Example: A vendor in India joins GIPE and begins shipping directly to Amazon UK, skipping the need for a European distributor.
In short:
GIPE is Amazon’s global initiative to scale direct imports - helping vendors ship products internationally into Amazon’s supply chain more efficiently.
