GLN
What is GLN?
The Global Location Number (GLN) is a globally standardized identifier developed by GS1, the same organization that manages barcodes and GTINs. GLNs are used to uniquely identify parties and places involved in supply chain transactions - such as buyers, suppliers, and warehouse locations.
How GLNs are used at Amazon:
- Warehouse GLN – identifies a specific Amazon Fulfilment Centre
- Company GLN – represents a vendor or seller’s business entity
- Buyer GLN – identifies Amazon as the purchasing party
- Supplier GLN – identifies the selling vendor or manufacturer
GLNs are especially important for:
- EDI transactions (POs, invoices, ASNs)
- Global supply chain traceability
- Automated logistics and compliance
- Matching entities across multiple systems or countries
💡 Example: When a vendor ships goods to an Amazon FC via EDI, both the supplier’s GLN and the warehouse’s GLN are included in the ASN to ensure precise delivery tracking.
In short:
GLN is a standardized 13-digit number that uniquely identifies companies and locations in Amazon’s global supply chain - essential for accurate and automated operations.
