BSR
What is BSR?
Best Seller Rank (BSR) is Amazon’s internal metric used to indicate how well a product is selling within a specific category or subcategory. It is updated hourly and based solely on recent and historical sales performance - not on customer reviews, ratings, or page views.
Key points about BSR:
- Every product can have multiple BSRs, one for each category it's listed in
- A BSR of #1 means it is the best-selling product in that category
- It does not include PPC (paid ads) sales - only organic and non-promotional sales
- BSR is relative, not absolute - it changes as competitors’ sales fluctuate
Why BSR matters to sellers:
- It's a public indicator of a product's sales velocity
- High BSR often boosts organic visibility and conversion rates
- Lower BSRs can increase the chance of getting into Amazon’s Best Seller lists
- Buyers often associate lower BSRs with popularity and trust
💡 Example: A yoga mat with a BSR of 58 in the “Sports & Outdoors” category is selling significantly better than one ranked at 4,200 in the same category.
In short: BSR shows how well a product is selling on Amazon - a lower number means higher sales in that category.
